wp-block-list\"><li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cognitive: <\/span><\/strong>Not being able to think clearly \u2013 because of either the illness or drug therapy<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Functional:<\/strong> <\/span>Inability to perform the tasks of daily living<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h4 class=\"has-text-color has-larger-font-size wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#ffffff\">Symptom distress<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Illness symptoms can cause two forms of distress:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-list\"><li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Physical: <\/span><\/strong>The strong link between pain, depression and anxiety is well-documented. Patients often say that intense, prolonged pain can make them feel that personal dignity has been lost and life is no longer worth living.<\/li><li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Psychological<\/span>: <\/strong>Uncertainty about one&#8217;s health status, treatment and what the future will bring can cause enormous fear and anxiety \u2013 which in turn threatens the patient&#8217;s sense of dignity. It&#8217;s important to allow the patient to define what is most significant for him or her.
